Funeral services for Evangelist Gloria “Glory” Jean Patterson Rivers were held on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at noon from Lomax Hannon Auditorium. Elder LoEarl Flowers served as officiating minister.

Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery. Hudson Funeral Services LLC of Greenville, Ala., directed. Evangelist Glory “Gloria” Jean Patterson Rivers was born in Forest Home, Ala., on Dec. 30, 1956 to the late Grady Jr. and Ruby Patterson.

She received baptism of the holy ghost in 1988. She joined the Greenwood Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Lo Earl Flowers. She remained a faithful, supportive and dedicated member. She served as the local choir president, local pastors aide president, local mother

board, district music president, district evangelist elect lady, district bible band president, served on the district woman department, profound soloist and many others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Rivers Sr.; brother,

Willie Earl Patterson; grandparents, Grady Sr. and Naomi Patterson, and very special friend, Evangelist Hazel Palmer.

She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 at Jackson Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories five children, Tamika (Michael) Bailey, Katina and Laketa Patterson, both of Greenville, Ala. Latoya (Quincy) Postell, Montgomery, Ala., and Gene Jr. (Sharon) Rivers, Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren, Jamicah, Jakirah, Genila, Miracle, Jamyi Keonna, and Quincy Jr.; three sisters, Joyce (Arthur) Jones, Greenville, Ala.; Elizabeth (Willie) Little, Angela Patterson, three brothers, Vincent (Mary) Patterson, Derrick (DeAnrea) Jones, all of Montgomery, Ala., and Greg (Ashley) Jones, Prattville, Ala.; four uncles, Roosevelt (Hattie) Patterson, L.G. (Dorothy) Patterson, Willard Patterson and Eddie Davis, all of Mobile, Ala.; aunt, Hannah (Roy) Gwynn, Danville, Va.; seven godchildren, Apostle Ronald McKnight, Birmingham, Ala., Monica Atkins, Marvin Perdue, Vicente Martinez, Alonzo Palmer and Denise Bailey, all of Greenville, Ala., and Keunta Holley, Dothan, Ala.; three special friends, Mae Gaffney, Verdell Atkins and Debbie Campbell, all of Greenville, Ala.; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, church family and other relatives and friends.
