Wallace Eugene Newton, 76, a resident of Greenville, Ala., passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2016. A celebration of life service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 from the Johnson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allen Stephenson officiating. Burial will follow in Damascus Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana, Ala., will be directing arrangements. Wallace was pastor of Springhill Baptist Church, where he served for 20 years. Before Springhill Baptist Church he was pastor at several other churches. Wallace served in the Marine Corps during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett Newton and Eva Reynolds Newton Daughtery. Survivors include sister, Ann Taylor, Greenville, Ala.; brothers, Bill Newton, Honoraville, Ala., and Pete Newton, Greenville, Ala. Wallace is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
