Mickey Worthington has announced his candidacy for City Council, District Three.

“Being retired, I will be able to devote the time needed to best serve District Three rather than serving in my spare time, which means I will be readily available to residents,” Worthington said.

“As a City Council member, I will help provide a firm model of management through honesty, reliability, accessibility to constituents, presenting their concerns to the council and coming to a timely resolve.”

Worthington claims he will be fiscally conservative and accountable. He says he will also be proactive with issues facing the city.

“I believe in the importance of encouraging small businesses. Having been a law enforcement officer and firefighter, I will support the fire and police departments in their efforts to protect and educate the public they serve,” he said.

“I will support community initiatives where feasible. I will encourage better upkeep of the website, encourage programs for the youth and support working out a way to provide city assistance to increase access to stores and the library for citizens who reside in the Luverne Health and Rehabilitation Home, as well as others who have no means of transportation.”

Worthington states that he practices “buy locally,” as fully as his needs allow, thereby supporting Luverne businesses.

“I will support the Mayor and fellow council members. Getting the job done means teamwork,” he said.

“I will represent the citizens in District Three as your voice, and I will be accessible by Facebook, email and phone.”
