Kip Smith has announced his candidacy for City Council, District Two.

“I am Kip Smith, the son of Faye Johnson of Brantley, where I graduated in 1981.  After graduation, I married Teresa Edwards Smith, the daughter of Henry and Roma Edwards, and we have resided in Luverne since 1981. Teresa and I have three children and seven grandchildren,” he said.

Smith has worked in Luverne for the past 34 years: five years with Piggly Wiggly, nine years with Super Foods of Luverne and over 20 years with the USPS as a letter carrier.  He attends South Luverne Baptist Church.

“I have been a member of the Luverne Fire Department since 1990, where I serve as the secretary/treasurer.  I also have coached youth sports for the past 25 years,” he said.

“I have been a resident in District Two for the past 13 years.  I have had the privilege to serve the citizens of District Two for the past 10 years. My philosophy concerning being a city council member includes working as a team member with the mayor and council to make Luverne the best it can be.”

Smith says council members are charged with doing what is best for the citizens and the city.  The mayor and council members must weigh all decisions for what is best for the citizens of Luverne and the city itself, in his opinion.

“If elected, I will continue to strive to make Luverne a place where people are proud to say, ‘I’m from Luverne, Alabama, The Friendliest City in the South’,” he said.
