Beth Rogers has announced her candidacy for mayor of Rutledge.

“I moved to Crenshaw County in 1992.  I’ve made a lot of lifelong friends since I’ve been here, and I can’t imagine living anywhere else,” Rogers said.

“During the time I’ve lived here, I’ve worked at The Journal office, as a substitute teacher and at Ramey’s. I’ve gotten to know a lot of the folks in the county, and I’ve talked to them about what they want for their families.”

In 2002 she started a business from home. Rogers says that it has been very rewarding to know that through her help, some life-changing stories are now available to the public.

Rogers has served on the Rutledge Town Council since 2003.  In December 2013, she was selected to become acting mayor.  Since that time, Rogers states that she has kept an “open door” policy, and no matter what time of the day or night, she is always available to talk to the citizens when they have a problem or need some help.

“I’ve looked out for the best interests of the town and everyone who lives there.  The council and I have watched our budgets closely, and we’ve applied for grant money to improve the town,” Rogers said.

“We were able to get a grant for the new water tower, after the Best Western and Bush’s Barbecue opened. In 2009, Rutledge participated in the Year of Small Towns, and received the historic marker in front of the Primitive Baptist Church building. We’ve also started the tradition of an Independence Day Parade, which continues to grow.”

Rogers says that no one person can claim all the credit for these accomplishments.

“It takes a lot of teamwork by a lot of good people. Randy and I have a blended family of six children and 11 grandchildren,” Rogers said.
