Horn family holds 114th annual reunion

Shelia, Bill and Sue Horn were among 65 relatives that attended the 114th annual Horn Family Reunion. The Horn reunion is one of the oldest  consecutive family gatherings in the state of Alabama. Family members travelled from Panama City, Florida, Wake Forest, North Carolina and Dallas, Georgia, as well as all areas of Alabama to be a part of the gathering.

Descendants of Richard Whitehead and Rebecca Cox Horn gathered on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the old Glenwood Schoolhouse for a fun family reunion. More than 65 relatives attended the 114th Annual Horn Family Reunion, held each third Sunday in Glenwood. The Horn Reunion is one of the oldest consecutive family gatherings in the state of Alabama.

Relatives and friends enjoyed a delicious summer buffet with fried chicken and all the trimmings and desserts, fellowship, sharing old family photos and catching up with one another. Some travelled from Panama City, Florida, Wake Forest, North Carolina and Dallas, Georgia as well as all areas of Alabama.

Family members, friends and relatives gathered around 11 am for set up and registration. A brief business meeting was held before lunch, and Rev. Allan Moseley, grandson of Green and Glenda Horn of Luverne provided the family prayer and blessing. Ray Horn, grandson of Ray M. Horn, sheriff of Crenshaw County for many years and Mary Frances Garner, daughter of Frances Horn Boswell shared family announcements followed by special recognitions of oldest living descendant attending the Horn Reunion, and the youngest relative attending the family gathering.

Adine Horn Moseley, daughter of Green and Glenda Horn of Luverne, age 88, was the oldest relative in attendance, while Keithen Duncan, age 2, grandson of Mary Duncan was the youngest present. The couple married the longest was also Adine and Neal Moseley of Montgomery, married 67 years. And newlyweds attending the reunion were Chase and Shiho Ellis of Luverne, married December 3, 2015. Adine Moseley was also the Horn relative who has attended the most Horn Reunions in her lifetime. She has been to 83 reunions.
