“We had good success,” Fire Department Lieutenant and Parks and Recreation Director Lee Simmons said.

“I think this tournament will bring more people.”

The idea for the tournaments came from a meeting with local firemen about the need for extra funds.

“We need extra money for loose end equipment,” Simmons said.

“The city does well with the budget for us, but it is mostly for vehicle maintenance and large equipment purchases.”

Twelve teams have entered the tournament. The games will be played on Saturday, July 23 at Person to Person Sports Complex, and play will begin at 9 a.m.

The fire department will also host a co-ed softball tournament on Saturday, July 30. Registration is open until Wednesday, July 27. The entry fee for the tournament is $200 per team.

“We’re happy about doing something to offset our cost, and give back to the community.” Simmons said.
