The 10th annual Heritage Cook-Off was held Saturday at Walnut Street Church of Christ, and while Wanda Stinson took home top honors, the real winners were the judges.

The theme for this year’s contest was sweet bread loaf, and the three judges got to sample a variety of tasty treats, which were prepared at home by the contestants.

The contest was open to Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA) members, male or female, 18 years of age or older.

Entries were judged on flavor, attractiveness, simplicity of recipe, appearance and, of course, taste.

As the winner, Stinson will represent Butler County at the state cook-off, which will be held in September at the ALFA office in Montgomery. Stinson took the title with her “Fruity-nuty Sweet Bread.”

Sylvia Peterson took second place in the local competition, which featured 12 entries, while Bobbie Royster finished in third place.

The local contest is sponsored by the Butler County Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Committee.
