The Greenville-Butler County Public Library will be closed to complete renovations and will re-open to the public on Friday, Aug. 19, according to Director Kevin Pearcey.

Work has been ongoing at the library since June 1 and library staff was operating on a limited-service basis out the facility’s Community Room, but now the building will have be closed completely to finish the project, said Pearcey.

“We definitely want people to have access to the library, but the plan was always to close completely once work had reached the stage where the Community Room needed to be refurbished and work finalized in the main part of the building,” said Pearcey. “It’s now reached that point.”

The contractor, Norris Building Co. of Montgomery, is scheduled to finish all work on the building by Aug. 1. Pearcey said new shelving and furniture will then need to be installed and the majority of the library’s collection moved back into the building, re-shelved and organized.

“It’s not an ideal situation for us to be closed as long as we are going to be, but we need the downtime in order to get everything prepared and ready for the public when we open back up,” said Pearcey.

Pearcey encouraged those with mobile devices or reading tablets to visit the library’s website – www.greenville-bcpl.org – and check out the collection of eBooks available through Camellia Net during the library’s downtime.

“If everyone will bear with us during this process the physical part of our services will be back up and running in no time,” he said. “Plus, we’ll have a wonderful new library to enjoy.”
