Outdoor fun, old-fashioned recipes and other southern family traditions will headline the agenda Sunday as the 114th Annual Horn Reunion gets underway at the old Glenwood Schoolhouse in Crenshaw County.

The old Glenwood Schoolhouse, located one-half mile off County Road 6, at the second paved road on the right past the historic Horn Shelter, is located in Glenwood approximately seven miles southeast of Luverne.

The Horn Family reunion, held traditionally each third Sunday in July, is one of the oldest consecutive family gatherings in the state of Alabama. This is the first year it will be held at the old Glenwood Schoolhouse to provide more amenities, including air-conditioning and indoor restrooms, for those who attend.

Relatives and descendants of Richard Whitehead Horn and Rebecca Cox Horn are encouraged to attend this special 114th anniversary summer celebration. Richard Whitehead Horn and Rebecca Cox Horn settled in what was then known as Pike County in 1826, and later became known as Crenshaw County in 1867.

With this family event scheduled each July as a special historic gathering, more than 150 relatives travel from throughout Alabama, the Southeast and other nearby regions.

This year’s Horn Family reunion is scheduled to begin at approximately 11 a.m. and conclude around 3 p.m., at the historic old schoolhouse in Glenwood. Lunch will be served at noon, with a short business meeting to follow the picnic.

The reunion is held each summer in Glenwood.

Family and friends are welcomed to join in the fun as the Horn reunion is always a popular summer gathering in Crenshaw County.
