Gov. Robert Bentley has declared a state of emergency for Alabama due to widespread power outages throughout the state. Effective until Tuesday, June 20, the state of emergency will allow crews from other states to aid Alabama in restoring power.
According to reports from the governor’s office, severe weather has left more than 50,000 Alabamians without power across the state Friday evening.
As of June 18 at approximately 6:20 a.m., a total of 36 outages have left 818 Pioneer Electric customers without power.  Those outages exist in the following areas:

Butler County:  206
Conecuh County: 19
Covington County: 8
Crenshaw County: 1
Dallas County: 15
Lowndes County: 279
Monroe County: 36
Wilcox County: 254
In addition, 8 substations and 16 feeders remain affected.  The earliest outage start time was recorded on June 17 at 5:03 p.m., while the latest outage was recorded on June 18 at 5:54 a.m.

Crews have been working  overnight to restore service, with additional aid arriving from Cullman Electric Cooperative.  The remaining outages will take time to address due to location and general difficulty. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
