HIlda Atkins Kay

Hilda Atkins Kay, 91, a Greenville S.C. native and a 48 year resident of Montgomery died peacefully at her home Saturday, May 28 surrounded by her family after suffering dementia for two years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Pinkney Kay; daughter, Nancy Kay Crew; parents, Jonah Atkins and O’Dessie Hemply Atkins; brothers, Hubert, Luther, Limon and Edgar Atkins; sister, Ivyl Atkins; nieces, Janet Kay and Judy Leak Surratt; nephews, Jimmy Kay and Joe Kay . She is survived by sisters, Lucy Atkins Morris, Frankie Atkins Leak; daughter, Jeanne K. Callen (Jack Crum Jr.); grandchildren, Jonathan Crew (Sunny), Aja Kay Reynolds and Jennifer Callen Piggott (Allen); great grandchildren, Amelia Kay Crew, Jack Braylen Reynolds, Jayden Brooke Piggott and Jackson Dillon Piggott; devoted care-givers, Annie Huffman and Debra Morris; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held June 11, 2 pm at Leak Memory Chapel, graveside to follow in Greenwood Serenity Cemetery.

Mrs. Kay was a loving wife, mother and loyal friend, a faithful member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, a dedicated Registered Nurse who devoted her life to the service of others in need. She also served her country during WWII in the Navy Nurse Cadet Corp.

She lived a life of purpose.
