In today’s society, it can be difficult at times to find young men and women who stand firmly for what they believe in, but for one Luverne Tiger in particular, that is not that case.

Luverne junior baseball player Blake Meadows was recently awarded the Jason Armstrong Baseball Leadership Award at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes banquet in Montgomery on Tuesday, April 26.

“The award goes along with the Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Classic,” said Luverne head baseball coach Brad Horn.

“Jason played at Trinity and not only was a great athlete, but he was a strong Christian. He walked the walk and talked the talk. This award is given out to one player from each team that participates in the tournament that best exemplifies the type of person that Jason was. The award is based on the characteristics of integrity, serving, teamwork and excellence, all of which Blake shows on a daily basis.”

Meadows was a first year starter for Luverne in the outfield and batted lead off for the Tigers this year.

“The award was given to the person who is the most Christ-like on the team and who shows hard work and dedication on the team,” Meadows said.

“I was surprised because really anybody on the team could have gotten the award and deserved it. We’re a team and we stick together. Everyone chips in and does their part.”

Meadows has played baseball for about five years now and has enjoyed his time spent with the Luverne Tigers. Going into his senior year, he plans to take this newfound award recognition and use it to further strengthen his leadership abilities.

“Being on a team, you’re shown that if you stick with something and see it through, you’ll be rewarded,” Meadows said.

“This award shows me that people do see me as a leader, so I can do my best to develop good leadership skills and be the best I can be.”
