Nine chosen for Boys State, Girls State

American Legion Post #24 has selected nine Butler County students to take part in Boys State and Girls State.

Greenville High School’s Jonathan Gordon, McKenzie School’s Chris Shufford, Georgiana School’s Haden Longmire  and Fort Dale Academy’s William Crenshaw will attend Alabama Boys State, which is scheduled for May 29 – June 4 at the University of Alabama.

Greenville High School’s Grace McCann, Georgiana School’s Chelsea Ledbetter and Claire Ledbetter, McKenzie School’s Ashley Lynch and Fort Dale Academy’s Jennifer Grace Arnold will attend Alabama Girls State, which is scheduled for June 5 – June 10 at the University of Alabama.

At Boys State and Girls State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of American citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.

Operated by the students elected to various offices, activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies and recreational programs.
