GPD kicks off amnesty days

During the months of February and March, the Greenville Police Department will offer amnesty to those with outstanding warrants or unpaid traffic tickets or fines.

“This has been a very successful program in the past, and we expect it to be successful again this year,” Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram said. “This is something that can help improve the quality of life for folks that have this burden. When you have outstanding fines or tickets, it’s like a weight that’s pulling you down. We’re trying to help folks get out from under that.”

Sgt. Danny Bond, who is overseeing the program, said the program can help those with multiple warrants or traffic tickets “reduce the amount of money they have to pay to clear the issues up.”

“We’re going to work with people to do what we can to get their tickets or warrants cleared up,” Bond said.

Ingram said that the amount that must be paid will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

The program, which began Monday, will come to a close March 31.

To participate in the program, individuals should call (334) 437-1827 and speak with Bond or (334) 382-7461 and speak with Gloria Moorer.
