Greenville dancers chasing state title

Greenville High School is hoping to dance its way to a state championship.

For the first time in school history, Greenville High School is sending its dance team to the Alabama Dance Championship, which is hosted by the Universal Dance Association.

The competition, which will be held in Hoover, Ala., on Jan. 23, will include pom, high kick, jazz and hip-hop divisions. Greenville High School’s team, which is made up of 11 girls ranging from 9th grade to 11th grade, will compete in high kick and hip-hop.

“(These girls) have been dancing together since July,” said GHS band director Brett Johnson. “These last four months we’ve been hitting it hard on the competition side of things to get ready for Saturday.”
