Charlie Watson Stinson

Charlie Watson Stinson, 92, of Elkhart, Texas passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 following an extended illness.

Born May 14, 1923 in Butler County, Alabama, he was the son of John Jason and Esther (Black) Stinson. He was a World War II veteran. Charlie moved his family to West Texas in 1950 where he began a life-long career as a truck driver. Retiring in Bridgeport, Texas, he and his wife moved to Elkhart in 2002. He was a member of New Haven Missionary Baptist Church.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Forest Stinson; two grandsons, Wetzell Burkett and Robert Shawn Ellison.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucile Stinson; three daughters, Mildred Brown, Elkhart, Betty Hosmer (Don), GA., Barbara Ellison, AL; two granddaughters, Trish Hosmer (Eddie) and Shana Ellison; seven great-grandchildren, all of AL.

Gravesite services were held Friday, December 4, 2015, 3:00pm at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart. Bro. Butch Grant, officiating.

Pallbearers were John O. Jay, Bill Cargill, Paul Frazier, A. J. Yarbrough, Bill Roberts and Roy Vest. Kenneth B. Brown served as an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Charlie’s memory be made to New Haven Missionary Baptist Church, 1214 E. State Hwy 294, Elkhart, Texas 75839.

Herrington Funeral Home of Palestine was in charges of services.
