Historical Society holding live auction

It’s that time of year again for the Crenshaw County Historical Society to hold its annual live auction at the Luverne United Methodist Dei Center.

The event features many historical items such as a plow (without a stock), handmade straw brooms, older handmade quilts and antique pictures frames. Since the society formed in 1988, an annual auction has taken place thanks to generous donations. Proceeds from this event go to help pay for postage for the society’s quarterly mailed bulletins.

Eva Stringer, active president and corresponding secretary for the Historical Society, is excited to once again prepare for the auction. She and the society believe that it is important for these auctions to be held because it helps the community remember the past and appreciate what a unique time it was.

“If you don’t know where you’ve been, you don’t know where you’re going,” said Stringer.

She believes it’s very important for the community to come to events like this, as well as the students of surrounding schools, because the experience is educational and enjoyable.

The auction will be held at 88 East First Street Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Stringer at 334-342-8115.
