Monroe Academy put a damper on Fort Dale Academy’s homecoming celebration Friday night.

The third-ranked Vols (8-0) pulled away in the second half to top the Eagles 34-3.

Monore led 14-0 at the intermission and began to stretch the game out early in the third quarter when a Luke Taylor pass was intercepted and returned for a score to give Monroe a 20-0 lead.

Monroe pushed the lead to 27-0 midway through the third quarter and never looked back using a stifling defense to ground the Eagles. The Vols kept Fort Dale off the scoreboard until the 9:38 mark in the fourth quarter when Jake Gillem booted a field goal for the Eagles.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Fort Dale (4-3).

The Eagles’ Taylor was 10-for-16 for 95 yards.

Senior wide receiver Stephen Hartley hauled in five passes for 75 yards and senior Maurlan Dickerson led the ground attack with 32 yards.

Junior Clay Mansmann had 10 stops to pace the Eagles defense. Sophomore Zack Kendrick added six tackles.

The Eagles will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Selma to take on Morgan Academy. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
