LBW Community College’s Paramedic program was recently awarded continuing accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

“The hard work and dedication of our faculty and staff in this program is evident in the continuing accreditation,” said LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel.

“Not only can students be assured of quality training as an emergency medical technician and/or paramedic, employers and future patients will ultimately benefit the most from their training at the highest standards.”

LBWCC’s program in Andalusia was peer reviewed by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions and CAAHEP’s Board of Directors, and recognized “the program’s substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards.”

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People’s lives often depend on their quick and competent care. EMTs and paramedics respond to emergency calls, performing medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities.

EMT certification can be completed in one semester, with advanced EMT requiring one additional semester. Building on those two certifications, the Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services – Paramedic program requires an additional three semesters for a total of five semesters for completion. For two consecutive years, LBWCC’s paramedic program graduates passed the national certification exam on the first attempt.
