2 lives claimed in Butler County crashes

Two single-vehicle crashes claimed the lives of two men today in Butler County.

According to Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook, Travis Centell Steiner, 35, of Greenville, was killed when the 2006 Mitsubishi Galant he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree on Alabama Hwy. 185 at the 9-mile marker at 12:10 a.m.

More than three hours later, the second crash occurred at the 121-mile marker on Interstate 65.

David Peter Nehrings, 54, of West Palm Beach, Fla., was killed when the 2007 Volvo tractor-trailer, in which he was a passenger,left the roadway and overturned.

Nehrings wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Timothy Blakely, 55, of Sarasota, Fla., wasn’t injured.

Alabama State Troopers are continuing to investigate these crashes.
