Following a 27-12 win over the Sidney Lanier Poets, the Greenville Tigers are sitting pretty with a 4-0 record in the region.

But Greenville head coach Patrick Plott would’ve been the last person celebrating that fact Friday night after what he called an atypically poor performance.

“It wasn’t pretty,” Plott said.

“I didn’t feel like we played well all night.  I just think we came out flat–we came out and we played a little sluggish.”

The typically sound Greenville defense remained so Friday, however, as opponents of the Tigers have only averaged 14 points all year.

Plott’s major concern instead lies on offense, considering his team’s recent misfortune with injuries sustained by quarterbck D’raylen McGrew and runningbacks Skilar Moorer and Alyric Posey.

Posey, a senior, was missed in particular, and Plott added that the status of his return is unknown at this time.

However, McGrew returned to the helm of the Tigers offense to mixed results, according to Plott.

“He’s in good shape, and he played well in spots tonight,” Plott added.

The decision to play McGrew stemmed largely from a need to get him back into the swing of things going full-speed in game situations.

But Plott also was impressed with his team’s determination in the face of the adversity they’ve gone through in recent weeks, including Friday night.

“We just stayed with the game plan and kept fighting through it, and we came out with the victory,” Plott said.
