Funeral services for Dr. James Edward Glass Sr., were held Sept. 20 at College Street Church of Christ. Bro. Bishnoo Rampersad and Bro. David Tillman officiated. James Edward Glass, Sr., was born to Johnnie Mae Glass on Aug. 6, 1944. Growing up on the Coosada Ferry Road in Montgomery, Ala., he was known in the community by the affectionate name of Baby James. He was added to the Church of Christ at an early age and remained very faithful until his death. He was a God fearing man. He attended Arthur Cook Elementary  School, after which he attended Booker T. Washington High School where he received his high School diploma. James furthered his education at Alabama State University in 1965.  In 1968 he met a beautiful young lady at the Oglesby Street Church of Christ in Greenville. On Aug. 28, 1971, he married Georgia M. Nelson and through this happy union they were blessed with three wonderful children. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in history and a minor in political science. In 1969 he began working at his first teaching job  after college at Cobb Junior High School. He was then moved to Anniston High School for a total of 13 years. In 1973 he received a Master of Education concentration in history. He went on to become certified in administration in 1978. In 1982 he began working at Lowndes County High School in Fort Deposit as principal and as a classroom teacher at Calhoun High School. In 1984 he received his EDS in Administrative Supervision at Alabama State University. He later received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity. He was also certified in Civil Defense, National and Man Made Disaster. He worked part time at the Employment Office in Greenville, as well as at Greenville Elementary School. He also worked with the Wilcox County Board of Education at Camden Academy Middle School as a teacher and at Wilcox Central High School as a teacher and was eventually promoted to an assistant  principal. He departed this life on Sept. 13 at L.V.   Stabler Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, Nathaniel Stubbs. He is survived by his wife, Georgia M. Glass; son, James E. Glass Jr., Stone Mountain, Ga.; two daughters, Celesia L. (Orthel) Baugh, Stone Mountain, Ga., and Sanijdra L. Glass, Spring Hill, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Jaliyah Marie Glass, Montgomery, and Airon Shaw, Sheffield, Ala.; and one great-grandson, Aidan Byrd, Sheffield, Ala.; aunt, Louella Smith, Montgomery, Ala.; uncle, William (Mary) Glass, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; seven sisters-in-law, Lucinda Rudolph, Corinthia Knight, Carolyn (Robert) Sanders, Gussie Rudolph, Essie Lanier, Lottie (Johnny) Milhouse, Doris Rudolph; five brothers-in-law, Emmitt Nelson, Van (Beverly) Nelson, William (Daisy) Rudolph, Johnnie (Zula) Rudolph, Clarence (Christine) Rudolph; a host of nieces, nephews, one special cousin, Verletta Smith, Montgomery; other relatives and many church friends.
