Seniors dominate Brantley/Luverne game

Rushes won over passes as Brantley High School defeated the Luverne High School Tigers 32 to 12 Thursday night. The Bulldogs gained 333 yards rushing and 31 passing. Luverne’s success came in its 248 yards gained passing. The team only picked up 33 yards rushing.

The Bulldogs set the pace early, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter. With 6 minutes and 50 seconds on the clock, senior Brandon Walker scored on a 2-yard run. The second touchdown came with 4 minutes and 35 seconds left. Senior Kaisaun Nichola had a 28-yard run to score.

The next touchdown came late in the second quarter. With 27 seconds left, Walker took it in with a 28-yard run.

Walker returned to the end zone in the third quarter. With 1:16 left, he ran 7 yards for the TD.

The Bulldogs scored one last time in the fourth quarter with 2:21 on the clock. Nichola ran one yard.

The Tigers scored in the second and third quarters. With six minutes left in the second quarter, senior TreVon Bodiford had a two-yard run.

With the clock showing 5:23 in the third quarter, Kenterius Womack had a 7-yard pass to Bodiford.

Brantley made the most of its 16 first downs as did Luverne with its 12. Each team’s quarterback had a sack and the yards gained on penalties played a factor in the outcome. Brantley was penalized 10 times for 100 yards. Luverne, eight times for 73 yards.

The end zones were dominated by seniors. All of the scores were the products of the veteran players.
