The Okami Dojo, at 118 South Forest Avenue in downtown Luverne will hold its first ever belt ceremony Friday, June 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., during which 12 students will be promoted from white belt to yellow belt. Sensei Adrine Carter said the public is invited to attend to see what the young, local students have learned in the traditional Japanese art of shotokan karate.

Carter said the style is based on the principles of discipline, respect and honor and classes are open to anyone of all ages and levels of experience willing to “explore the beauty of martial arts.”

Group classes are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., wish special classes available to accommodate for specific scheduling needs. For information, contact Carter at 334-399-8603.
