Shameka Rodgers was the undergraduate speaker at UAB’s commencement April 26 at Bartow Arena.

Rodgers graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She was a member of the Experiential Learning Scholars Program and the UAB School of Nursing Honors Program.

She was the recipient of numerous scholarships including the Brock Family Endowed Scholarship, the Lettie P. Whitehead Nursing Scholarship, the Mary J. Harwell Nursing Scholarship, a UAB Equity and Diversity Scholarhsip and a UAB Collegiate Scholarship.

She was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, the Student Nurses Association, Golden Key International Honor Society, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., National Panhellenic Council, Gamma Sigma Alpha Greek Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society and the Multicultural Scholars Program.

Rodgers plans to attend the UAB Graduate School of Nursing with plans to become a family nurse practitioner. While attending graduate school she will be working at the UAB Women and Infant’s Center in the gynecology/oncology nursing unit.
