James Melvin Cauthen

Mr. James Melvin Cauthen, 90, a resident of Mt. Carmel, Ala., died on Tuesday at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 13, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home with minister Jack Cates officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. The family will receive friends at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home from 2 p.m. until the funeral.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice (Kenneth) Booker; sons, Travis Cauthen and Randall (Vivian) Cauthen; granddaughters, Kathryn and Elizabeth Cauthen; sister, Earline C. Strickland; brothers, Charlie and Bygie Cauthen; step-daughter, Jane (George) Milam; and step-grandchild Jessica; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cauthen was one of 11 children born to James Mack and Pearl Smith Cauthen. He was born Nov. 18, 1923.  He retired from being a carpenter and homebuilder for many years in Butler and surrounding counties.  More recently he had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

The family appreciates the many kindnesses of friends and the Baptist Hospice group, which offered comfort to both he and the family toward the end of his life.
