Locals receive degrees from Alabama State

MONTGOMERY — Alabama State University awarded 430 degrees during its fall commencement ceremony.

Among those receiving degrees were Greenville’s Mary Alice Carter-Gregory and Cassandra Evon Hawkins.

While at Alabama State University, Carter-Gregory, who graduated with an education specialist degree in elementary education, was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta sorority.

Her community involvement includes membership in the Aberilla Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and president of the Golden Circle.

Hawkins finished with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

Alabama State University was founded in 1867. Located in Montgomery the university offers several new high-demand degree programs including a Bachelor of Science degree in forensic chemistry, a Master of Science degree in forensic chemistry, a Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics, the Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance and the accelerated baccalaureate degree program where students can earn their Bachelor of Science in psychology.
