South Alabama Electric Cooperative will host is annual membership meeting on Tuesday at the Pike County Cattlemen’s Complex.

The day’s events will get underway at 11 a.m. when hotdogs will be served to members with tickets until 1 p.m.

Entertainment will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Robert L. Lee and Friends and will continue with The Chuck Wagon Gang at 1:30 p.m.

Mark Hill, SAEC office manager, said that although the event is a membership meeting, the public is invited to come out and enjoy the entertainment.

“We set up about 1,100 chairs and last year we had 600 members who attended,” Hill said. “So, we usually have room for non-members and we welcome them to come out an enjoy the music.”

The Chuck Wagon Gang entertained at the 2013 SAEC annual membership meeting.

Hill said the response was so good that the co-op decided to have them back.

The Chuck Wagon Gang is in its 75th year of singing the old Gospel songs the way “Dad Carter” taught his kids to sing.

The dance called progress has not altered the way the Chuck Wagon Gang sings the old songs. The “Gang” has maintained its simple style and its distinctive sound and helped preserve the legacy of the old-time Gospel music.

The Chuck Wagon Gang is the oldest recording mixed quartet that has continuously recorded “grass roots” Gospel music.

The group has recorded more than 800 songs and sold 40 million records worldwide. The Chuck Wagon Gang continues to sing many of the songs the original group recorded in 1936, the group’s first year.

Some of The Chuck Wagon Gang’s most requested songs include “The Church in the Wildwood,” “I’ll Fly Away,” “I’ll Meet You in the Morning.” “Looking for a City” and “Heaven’s Really Gonna Shine.”
