Authorities say Ashley McDonald of Greenville was shot just after midnight during an altercation between her boyfriend and another man at the party.

Jamaar Taylor, 29, of Fort Deposit, has been charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

“It doesn’t appear that the victim was the intended target,” Lt. Justin Lovvorn said.

According to Lovvorn, Taylor took a gun from his car and began firing following an argument that erupted over a game on dominoes.

“He pulled a gun and started shooting,” Lovvorn said. “The guy he was arguing with and a couple of other guys that were out in the yard tackled him and tried to wrestle the gun away from him. He kept firing, and we believe that’s when his girlfriend was hit.”

Lovvorn said that one of the men who was attempting to wrestle the gun from Taylor was also hit by a bullet, but that his injuries were not serious.

“When someone engages in reckless behavior that results in someone else losing their life that constitutes murder,” Lovvorn said. “The suspect acted recklessly and it resulted in the victim losing her life. That’s why he was charged with murder.”

Taylor is being held in the Butler County Correctional Facility.
