For Bella Wesley the experience of being crowned homecoming queen at the University of Alabama was unlike any other.

“When I was being crowned at the game I looked around the stadium and tried to take in the moment, but I couldn’t really even comprehend what was going on,” Wesley said.

Wesley, a Greenville native and a graduate of Fort Dale Academy, received the majority of the 10,144 votes that were cast online by students at the university.

When the senior accounting major learned that she would be the 2013 homecoming queen, she was “overwhelmed with excitement.”

“I was so shocked when I learned I had been elected queen,” Wesley said.

“I never would have expected to be honored in a way like this.  I was so honored when I learned I was selected though, and it made me feel like all my hard work while at Alabama has really made a difference.”

Wesley said having the chance to share the experience with her family and friends made it even more special.

“My favorite part was being able to be on the field with my parents and see how excited they were,” she said. “I would not have been able to be a candidate for this honor if it wouldn’t have been for all they have done for me for the past 21 years.

“After the game I was able to hang out with my family and many great friends from Greenville, and we had the best time celebrating an awesome experience.”

Wesley was crowned by Gov. Robert Bentley at halftime of the Crimson Tide’s win over Georgia State.

Prior to the game, former Greenville High School standout Ozell Powell was recognized as an honorary captain.

Powell was a member of Alabama’s 1992 national championship team.
