RELAY FOR LIFE BEAUTY PAGEANT: The pageant will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., At Crenshaw Christian Academy. Categories include ages 0-19. Entry fee is $25 per contestant, and is non-refundable. There are optional categories of Miss photogenic and Mr. and Miss Relay Bucks. LUVERNE FIRE DEPARTMENT: The Luverne Fire Dept. is selling $2 chances on a rifle to be given away in October. Their goal is to sell 2,000 tickets and all proceeds will go toward new equipment. Please see one of the members to help them meet their goal.

 

GOSPEL SINGING: The Old Time Gospel Singers will be in concert Oct. 13, at 5 p.m., at Dozier Baptist Church.

Ready to work: LBW Community College offers “Ready to Work,” a free program designed to provide the entry-level skills required for employment with many Alabama businesses and industries. The program is conducted in a professional workplace environment where students receive training in WorkKeys, computer skills, workplace behavior, problem solving, manufacturing, interview skills, and more. Successful completers will receive an Alabama Certified Worker Certificate from AIDT as well as an Alabama Career Readiness Certificate.  These credentials will document your job skills and show employers what you can do. Biblical classes: Classical Hebrew and Hellenistic Greek classes can be made available for local pastors and Christian ministers by calling Archbishop Michael B. Simmons, Ph.D., at 335-5707.

Biblical Aramaic is another possibility for those who have already studied at least one year of Classical Hebrew. Most of the Old Testament was written in Classical Hebrew, with the exception of parts of books (i.e., Daniel), which were written in Aramaic, the language that Jesus spoke. The books of the New Testament were written in Hellenistic Greek.

A fee is required for each class, and all Christian pastors and lay-workers will receive a discount. The classes are open to people from any Church tradition or denomination and are not restricted to ordained ministers, so laypersons can enroll.

They would especially benefit anyone who has already studied one of the biblical languages and would like to take a “refresher” course. For further information, call Archbishop  Simmons at the number above.

 

ADULT EDUCATION: Free Adult Education Classes are offered at the LBW Community College – Luverne Center.  These classes provide a second opportunity for adult learners to improve their academic and life skills.  Learning opportunities include GED preparation classes, basic skills classes for reading and math, and literacy instruction for adults learning to read.

Instruction is based on individual student needs and may range from one-on-one tutoring.
