GMS drops heatbreaker to CHMS Trojans

Charles Henderson Middle School edged Greenville Middle School 16-14 Oct. 3.

The Trojans raced out to a 16-0 lead in the first half thanks in part to a pair of Greenville turnovers, and it proved too much for the Tigers to overcome.

“This was a tough loss considering we beat them 24-6 when we played them two weeks ago,” GMS head coach Daniel Ingram said. “We settled down in the second half but weren’t able to get the victory at the end.”

Despite the loss, Ingram said he was proud of his team’s effort.

“I was really proud of how we didn’t give up,” he said. “I have been a part of teams in the past that would have laid down after being down by two scores. I was very proud of their effort.”

Malik Bunch scored both of Greenville’s touchdowns. The first came on a 30-yard pass from Daniel Gaston. His second came when he intercepted a pass at the 1-yard line and returned 99 yards for a touchdown.

The Tigers will host Wilcox Middle School Thursday at 6 p.m.
