Highland Home gets big homecoming victory

Personnel changes for the Flying Squadron this week proved to be just what the doctor ordered for Highland Home.

Highland Home blasted New Brockton, 62-35 on homecoming.

Dontae Lee got things started for the Flying Squadron with a 60-yard run with 10:51 left in the first quarter. Andrew Akers kicked a successful PAT.

Chris Wooten took his turn, taking the ball 2 yards for a touchdown with 9:09 left in the first.

Akers’ second PAT of the night was good.

Wooten found the end zone once again on a 19-yard run with 1:03 left in the first. Akers hit the uprights again.

Billy Nance, who took over this week as quarterback, scored on a 32-yard run, and Akers’ kick was successful.

Wooten got another TD in the second and Akers hit another PAT.

New Brockton managed two touchdowns in the first half.

With 48 seconds left in the half, Kory Bell intercepted a New Brockton pass.

New Brockton struck first in the second half, putting a TD in the end zone from the 3-yard line with 10:10 left in the third quarter.

With 7:45 left in the third, Wooten took the ball 4 yards for a touchdown, and Akers’ extra point was good, putting Highland up 42-21.

Wooten took the ball in from 48 yards out with 6:10 left in the third. Akers extra point was no good.

Lewis Johnson ran another Highland Home touchdown and Akers’ extra point was good.

Bell intercepted another pass and scored to give Highland their last score of the game, and Akers’ extra point was good with 5 seconds left in the third.

New Brockton scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The Squadron come out of the game 3-1 in the region, and head coach Tom Pinkston said he was really proud of how his team came together this week.

“We worked real hard this week,” he said. “We made some personnel changes that really helped. We put Billy (Nance) at quarterback. He did a really good job leading the offense. Chris (Wooten) had a great game. He’s very consistent.”

Highland will travel to Calhoun for another region game next week.
