Brantley came out in the second half  and dominated, in their 41-21 win over Highland Home Friday night.

The Flying Squadron of Highland Home got things started when quarterback Lewis Johnson hit DJ Mathews with 3:23 left in the first.

Andrew Akers nailed the PAT.

Brantley running back Andrew Parker, who was back in action for the Bulldogs after a knee injury, scored with 42.7 seconds left in the first.

DJ Salter’s PAT was good, tying up the game 7-all.

Not to be outdone, Highland Home’s Chris Wooten ran 73 yards for a touchdown and Akers put the PAT through the uprights to end the first quarter and go ahead 14-7 at the end of one.

Parker scored his second TD of the night with 4:57 left in the second, and Kaisaun Nichols scored the two-point conversion, putting Brantley up 15-14.

Brandon Walker struck again for the Bulldogs with 1:20 left in the second, but Highland blocked Salter’s PAT, making the score 20-14 at the break.

Walker put another TD in the end zone in the third quarter, and Clay Haws turned an erroneous snap into a two-point conversion.

Stefan King picked up a fumble recovery for a touchdown with 3:34 left in the third quarter, but Salter’s kick was no good, putting Brantley up 35-14.

Brantley’s Malcolm Burnett picked off a Billy Nance pass in the third.

Xavious Young ran a touchdown in for Brantley with 1:37 left in the third, for the Bulldogs’ final score of the night.

In the fourth quarter, Highland Home’s David Rogers scored with 8:03 left, and Akers’ PAT was good.

Brantley head coach Ashley Kilcrease said he was really pleased by his team’s efforts.

“We knew that having Andrew back was going to big for us,” he said. “He’s our only returning starter and he had 160 yards.”

Kilcrease said that the Flying Squadron is the second best team they’ve seen all season.

“It was good to get a win,” he said.
