Manhunt ends with arrest

A Butler County man is in custody after a manhunt that lasted for more than five hours Thursday night.

Scott Braley, 33, was taken into custody and charged with attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, reckless driving, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Greenville Police Department Lt. Justin Lovvorn, when authorities attempted to make a traffic stop on Braley, who was in a stolen pickup truck, he led officers on a car chase that spanned more than 10 miles before bailing out of the truck and running into the woods near U.S. Hwy. 31 and Gravel Hill Road.

Authorities called in a K-9 unit from Atmore to assist in tracking Braley through the woods. He was eventually captured near Winkler Street and Harrison Street in Greenville, approximately five miles from where the chase began.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the manhunt.
