Law enforcement authorities have arrested a man in connection with the May armed robbery of Bancorp South.

The Greenville police department has charged Lamarcus Deshon Moore, 28, with robbery, first degree.

“We’re glad to get this guy,” Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram said. “This arrest is the result of good work by our investigators. We’re glad that no one was injured during the robbery and we’re very glad that we were able to capture one of the suspects.”

According to authorities, Moore and another black male entered Bancorp South’s branch on Fort Dale Road on May 2 and demanded that the cashiers empty their cash drawers.

The men, at least one of whom was armed, made off with $11,000 in a white pickup truck, which authorities later discovered had been stolen near Daphne, Ala.

Officers quickly responded to the scene and began searching along Hwy. 185. They discovered the pickup truck abandoned behind Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church a short time later, along with the money that had been stolen. Authorities believe the suspects abandoned the money after the dye packs exploded.

Officers followed a trail of money into a wooded area near Pinedale Drive, and used K-9s to track the suspects, but the search came up empty.

Lt. Justin Lovvorn said officers were able to collect fingerprints and DNA evidence from the pickup truck and sent it to be processed at the lab.

The DNA evidence led to the arrest of Moore.

“His DNA was in the system from a previous arrest,” Ingram said. “I think it’s pretty unusual to solve a bank robbery case with DNA, but that’s just a credit to our investigators for being alert and collecting that evidence.”

Moore was taken into custody by the Pritchard Police Department after the GPD issued a warrant for his arrest. He was later transported to the Butler County Correctional Facility where he is currently being held.

Lovvorn said authorities are still waiting on other DNA evidence to be processed.

“We’re hoping it helps further our case,” he said. “With the help of the FBI we’ve narrowed down our list of suspects to three or four people. We anticipate making the arrest of the second suspect in the near future.”
