Shriner Andy Compton said bags of boiled peanuts would be ready today, and are $4 for small and $8 for large bags.

In conjunction, the Crenshaw County Chamber is holding its annual Peanut Boil Festival, which will be complete with a petting zoo, train ride, vendors, food, a car show, and much more.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and end at 5 p.m.

Yesterday afternoon, volunteers were busy getting the peanuts ready and started cooking the Southern treats.

Peanuts are available through Labor Day, but rarely last that long.

Several years ago, the Shriners installed new boiling equipment that allowed them to reach the current tonnage and added the roaster.
