Georgiana School’s Matt Sheffield tossed a complete-game, one-hitter on Monday to power the Panthers to a 10-0 win over Class 5A Wilcox-Central High School.

The Georgiana right-hander struck out seven in five innings and allowed just one walk.

“The only hit Matt gave up was a ball that was lost in the sun,” Georgiana head coach David Watts said.

Sheffield also proved up for the task at the plate. He homered in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and doubled in the fourth inning.

He was one of four Panthers to record multiple hits in the victory.

Travales Smith, Logan Vickery and Justin Oikle each had two hits.

Sheffield plated two runs, while Oikle, Vickery, Willie Mobley, Tarien Crittenden and Mike Dunn each drove in a run.

The Panthers will be back in action Saturday when they take on in-county rival Greenville at Beeland Park. The doubleheader is set to begin at 11 a.m.
