Lt. Cmdr. Michael Nix, a native of Greenville, recently assumed duty as the executive officer for Training Support Center Hampton Roads (TSCHR).
TSCHR provides centralized student management for 90,000 sailors and Marines that pass through the Naval Education and Training Center Hampton Roads training commands each year.
The executive officer is often known as the enforcer; however, he is not the same type of enforcer you would see in a hockey game. Simply speaking, he is the person that enforces the policies of the commanding officer.
Nix is the son of Greenville residents Willie Nix and Betty Johnson. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1988 as a radioman seaman recruit.
His personal awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
Nix also holds a Master of Science Degree from Troy University.
He has been married to Elizabeth M. Nix (Hovey) for 21 years and they have a daughter, Alyssa Nix – a student at Tidewater Community College. His son, Payton McGhee, is a recent graduate of Troy University.
