Holiday shopping helped provide a boost to local sales tax collections.

Both the City of Greenville and Butler County saw gains in November sales tax collections, which are reported in December.

Greenville reported $500,954 during December, which was an increase of $11,614 over the total reported in December of 2011.

In 2012, Greenville collected $5,842,909 in sales tax.

Butler County reported $75,607 in December of 2012, an increase of $1,488 over the total collected in December of 2011.

“There wasn’t a whole lot of difference, but it was an increase of approximately 2 percent,” Butler County Administrator Diane Kilpatrick said.
