L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital has been named a “Top Performer.”

The Joint Commission, one of the nation’s leading accreditors of healthcare organizations, released its list of top performers today, with L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital earning top performer status for surgical care.

It marks the second year in a row that the hospital made the list. Last year, L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital was recognized as a top performer for surgical care and pneumonia care.

“We’re very excited and honored to be recognized again this year,” said Connie Nicholas, L.V. Stabler Memorial interim CEO. “Our team of professionals work very hard to bring quality care to our community, and we’re very pleased that the level of care they provide is being recognized by the Joint Commission.”

There are 620 hospitals being recognized as “Top Performers” this year; they represent approximately 18 percent of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals reporting core measure performance data.

Recognition in the Joint Commission’s “Top Performers on Key Quality Measures” program is based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to the Joint Commission during the previous calendar year. This year’s program results are based on data that were reported for 2011.

According to the report, a “Top Performer” must first achieve performance of 95 percent or above on a single, composite score that includes all the accountability measures for which it reports data to the Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients. Second, the hospital also must meet a
95 percent performance threshold for every accountability measure for which it reports data to the Joint Commission, excluding any measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.

“Making the ‘Top Performers’ list is no easy feat,” said Dr. Mark Chassin, president of the Joint Commission. “These hospitals are leading the way in quality improvement, as American hospitals as a whole continue to make strides. While all hospitals achieving improvements deserve congratulations, those making the ‘Top Performers’ list have achieved an exemplary level of performance.”
In addition to being included in the Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report, L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital is recognized on the Joint Commission’s website, www.qualitycheck.org.
