A Crenshaw County man was fatally injured after he crashed his vehicle into a tree Monday night after allegedly fleeing a hit-and-run accident in Greenville.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Josh Holladay, 32, ran into two vehicles on the Greenville Bypass.

Lt. Justin Lovvorn of the Greenville Police Department confirmed that Holiday was fleeing from an accident at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle and ran into a tree near Hwy. 10 East.

“We got report of a hit and run on the Bypass, one (of the struck vehicles) was trying to follow him to see where he was going and he went out on Hwy. 10 East,” Lovvorn said.

Holiday later attempted to make a turn on County Road 50. That’s when he lost control of the vehicle, Lovvorn said.

“The driver was pronounced dead on the scene,” Lovvorn said. “They’re still estimating the speed based on the scene, but apparently it was a high rate of speed.”

Cpl. Tommy Anderson and Capt. Gary Martin of the Greenville Police Department worked the scene.
