Cambrian Ridge saw more than just the usual travelers and golf enthusiasts play the greens on Saturday.

The Greenville Area Jaycees’ 14th annual Kid’s Classic brought teams of golfers to the trail to help raise approximately $6,500 that will go toward purchasing Christmas presents for foster children.

“It’s really special,” said Ben Norman, golf tournament chair and Jaycees’ vice president. “We had one of the older kids come up last time and just say, ‘Hey, if it wasn’t for you guys, there would have been several Christmases that I wouldn’t have had any presents.’”

Fifty sponsors contributed to about $5,000 that was raised with the remaining amount coming from the Classic itself.

“The community came together this year as far as sponsorships,” Norman said. “We didn’t have as many teams this year as we have had in the past, but as far as sponsorships, we are right on target as what we usually do. We’ve done well.”

Norman said the event is really about the community coming together for a good cause.

“It gives back to the community and gives to the kids that otherwise wouldn’t have.”
