Taking what children have learned in school and applying it to real-life scenarios is how Healthy Kids, Inc. has designed its summer program.

Healthy Kids will be providing the Summer Fun Discovery Camp for ages 5 to 10 that will be based on children conducting explorations.

“Basically, (the children) are going to have units in which they explore and create different adventures,” Executive Director Lisa Nimmer said.  “They will make the things that they need for the adventure and go on it. It utilizes some literacy, science and math, but all in a fun progressive way where they will actually get to implement things into games and fun.”

The camp will be from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. every day and will start on June 4 and go for the entire summer with the program ending Aug. 10. There is a prepayment of $70 per week for the camp.

“If someone just needs to come one week, they can come just the week,” Nimmer said. “For them to get the best out of the whole program, the more participation the better the child will get to benefit from it.”

Nimmer said it’s a family-centered environment, and she hopes the program will encourage the entire family to participate.
