Mrs. Marianne Stanley Hardin, 84, died on May 3, 2012, in Greenville, AL. The wife of William Eugene Hardin, Jr., the couple were former owners of The Greenville Advocate.

Mrs. Hardin was born on September 26, 1927, in Greenville. She received her degree from Ward Belmont College and attended the University of Alabama. After her marriage in 1949, she moved to Mobile with her husband who worked for a radio station there. The couple returned to Greenville in 1951 where they lived and raised their family.

Known to family and friends as Nonnie, she was active in many facets of community life. These included the Butler County United Fund, The March of Dimes and Welcome Wagon of Greenville. She loved working with local Girl Scout troops and the Girl Scout Council of Alabama. She was a member and officer of the Father Ryan Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; the Fort Dale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Pride of Greenville Garden Club; and Woodland Heights Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, she is survived by her four children: Mollie Utley, Laurie Alverson and Jean Bauer of Greenville, AL; Bill Hardin and his wife Elizabeth of Montgomery, AL; her grandchildren: Leah Utley Coles and her husband John of Montgomery; Elizabeth Utley of Montgomery; Marianne Alverson Gilchrist and her husband John of Birmingham, AL; Virginia Alverson and Frank Alverson, Jr. both of Birmingham; Caroline and Will Hardin of Montgomery, and, her great – granddaughter Kates Coles.

Mrs. Hardin was preceded in death by her parents Mary Beeland and John Glenn Stanley, and her sister and brother-in-law Virginia Webb and McDonald Plummer.

The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday May 6, 2012 at Woodland Heights Methodist Church, Greenville, AL with Rev. Joe Lisenby officiating and Dunklin & Daniels directing. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Greenville, AL. Online condolences can be made at www.dunklinanddanielsfh.com.
