Gregory wins state title

The Fort Dale Academy track & field team earned four top-three finishes at the Alabama Independent School Association state meet April 19.

Senior Ethan Gregory claimed the state championship in the 800-meter run. He finished with a time of 2:15.06, just ahead of Lee-Scott Academy’s Kyle Smith who finished with a time of 2:15.93. Tuscaloosa Academy’s Terrence Maybaum rounded out the top three with a time of 2:16.26.

Gregory also helped the Eagles claim a second-place finish in the 4×800 meter relay. Gregory, Tyler Millo, Brandon Brown and David Miller finished with a time of 9:33.27.

Lee-Scott Academy won the race with a time of 9:18.34.

Miller earned a third-place finish in the 3200-meter run after finishing in 12:21.40. Lee-Scott Academy’s Dalton Williams and Stone Ray finished first and second, respectively. Williams finished in 11:32.77, while Ray finished in 11:45.86.

Nedra Toulmin Crosby claimed third place in the high jump. She cleared four feet, six inches.

Fort Dale’s boys’ team finished sixth overall, while the girls’ team finished 13th.

“We did a pretty good job,” Fort Dale head coach James “Speed” Sampley said. “I was proud of the effort.”
