On Tuesday Butler County voters will cast their ballots in the Democratic and Republican runoff elections.

On the county’s Democratic ticket is a runoff between Allin Whittle and Robert Blankenship for the party’s nomination for the District 4 seat on the Butler County Commission.

In the March primary, Whittle garnered 329 votes or 47.82 percent of the vote, while Blankenship received 232 votes or 33.72 percent of the vote.

The winner will face Republican candidate Charles Rogers in November’s general election.

On the Republican side, candidates Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh and Chip Brown will compete for president of the Public Service Commission. Cavanaugh garnered nearly half the statewide vote, but failed to get the 50 percent plus one needed to avoid a runoff election.

Butler County Probate Judge Steve Norman estimates that the runoff election will cost the county $7,000.

While the State of Alabama will cover the cost of the statewide runoff in the Republican primary for president of the Public Service Commission, the county will be responsible for the remainder of the cost associated with the runoff for the District 4 seat on the Butler County Commission, according to Norman.

Polls for the Tuesday’s runoff will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
