The YMCA Greenville has upped its prices for a second time in its 16-year existence in Greenville.

As of April 1, prices went up by $5 for all memberships. The new prices are $45 for a family, $35 for an adult and $25 for youth, according to YMCA Executive Director Amanda Phillips.

The new prices will be effective for all new members as well as old members who will need to renew.

Along with the $5 increase, the YMCA also did away with nonmembers paying $5 per class.

Phillips said the change was made because nonmember participation was limiting members’ opportunities to participate in popular classes.

“The classes were so full of nonmembers that we didn’t have room for the members,” Phillips said. “Everyone that wanted to participate in the class was asked to join.”

Phillips said the increase in price was because of new YMCA equipment and the economy.

“(It’s because of) everything,” Phillips said. “The economy with the way it is and what the Montgomery YMCA has put into this building like equipment and paint, it just had to be done.”
