Katie Lane (Kay) Sherling Wynne, 73, of Birmingham, AL, died Saturday March 10, 2012.  Originally from Greenville, AL, she was the daughter of the late Daniel McFarland Sherling and Katie Lane Kendrick Sherling of Greenville, AL.

Born April 16, 1938, Kay was raised in Greenville, AL, where she graduated from Greenville High School. Kay attended the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, where she was a proud member of the Kappa Delta Sorority; while there she met her husband, Albert.

In addition to her parents, her son Albert E. Wynne IV and her brother John Kendrick Sherling preceded Kay in death. Those left to remember her include her husband, Albert Edwards Wynne III; her two daughters, Katie Wynne Kirkland (Peter B. Kirkland) and Evelyne Wynne DeLong (William DeLong); her five grandchildren, Lamar and Ruben DeLong, Katie Lane, Albert and Ruth Evelyne Kirkland; and many, many close friends.

Kay was the very deserving recipient of many honors, including: Miss Greenville High School, Maid of Cotton and Corolla Beauty. She was an esteemed member of many prestigious organizations, such as, The Magna Carta Dames, Colonial Dames, Americans of Royal Descent, Junior League of Birmingham, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pace Society, Little Club and Vanities Dance Club. In addition, Kay was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook, AL.

However, Kay’s many accomplishments and activities do not even begin to adequately describe this beloved woman. She was the consummate Southern Lady: always polite, friendly, generous and hospitable. Kay was a painter, a friend, a gardener and a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Kay was a beautiful woman inside and out, who was passionately devoted to her family and friends.

Kay will be remembered by her family and close friends on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at a Graveside Service in Magnolia Cemetery, Greenville, AL with Rev. Russell Levenson officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to services. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook, AL on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
